KIIT School of Law is pleased to share that Mr. Udit Narayan Mishra, Assistant Professor of Law, was invited as a distinguished Resource Person at the Mahatma Gandhi Academy of Prisons and Correctional Services, Bhubaneswar.

He contributed to the “Refresher Training Programme for Master Trainers on the Three New Criminal Laws in Prison-Related Matters,” a specialised two-day programme held on 8th and 9th April 2026.

On the second day of the programme, Mr. Mishra conducted three intensive sessions, offering a comprehensive and practice-oriented understanding of India’s newly enacted criminal law framework. His sessions focused on the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (BNS) and the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (BNSS), addressing both substantive and procedural dimensions relevant to prison administration.

Key areas covered included:

  • In-depth analysis of the BNS, including provisions on probation, community service as a form of punishment, organised crime, petty organised crime, and offences against the State.
  • Detailed discussions on the BNSS, particularly regarding the structure and language of judgments, the Witness Protection Scheme, and judicial orders relating to probation and compensation.
  • Procedural aspects concerning the submission of death sentences for confirmation under the BNSS framework.

Mr. Mishra’s sessions were widely appreciated for their clarity, depth, and practical relevance, significantly contributing to the professional capacity-building of prison officials.

KIIT School of Law commends Mr. Mishra for his meaningful contribution to legal education and training, and for actively engaging with key stakeholders in navigating the evolving landscape of Indian criminal law.
