The Legal Services Clinic of KIIT School of Law, conducted a survey on domestic workers on 14th March 2024. This report summarizes the data collection process and findings from a survey conducted on domestic workers from four organizations: Paritosh, Jagruti, Nirakar, and Manjushree. The survey aimed to gather insights into the working conditions, demographics, and challenges faced by domestic workers, both male and female, employed by these organizations. The survey was conducted in SCB Medical College and Hospital and Cuttack Municipal Corporation.
A total of 40 domestic workers were surveyed, with more than 10 participants from each organization. The survey was conducted through face-to-face interviews with the domestic workers. Four student members of the Legal Services Clinic of KIIT School of Law conducted the interviews using a structured questionnaire. The questionnaire included sections covering demographics, employment details, working conditions, challenges faced, and suggestions for improvement. The interviewed workers were assured of confidentiality and anonymity. Informed consent was obtained before conducting the interviews.
The survey of domestic workers from Paritosh, Jagruti, Nirakar, and Manjushree organizations provided valuable insights into the experiences and challenges faced by this segment of the workforce. The findings underscore the need for comprehensive reforms to improve the working conditions, rights, and economic security of domestic workers. It is imperative for policymakers, employers, and civil society organizations to collaborate in addressing these issues and advocating for the rights and dignity of domestic workers.
