On September 3, 2024, the KIIT Legal Services Clinic brought a spark of empowerment to Patia Girls Government High School through an inspiring speed mentoring session tailored for 8th, 9th, and 10th-grade girls in regional language (Odia). The event focused on crucial topics such as women’s rights, protection from domestic violence, children’s education rights, and access to scholarships—both general and specifically for women.
The atmosphere buzzed with excitement as Falguni Mundhra opened the session, welcoming the students with an engaging introduction that set the tone for the day. Ritika Puhan took the stage next, addressing the sensitive issue of women’s rights against domestic violence. With compassion and clarity, she delved into the physical and psychological impacts of violence, helping students recognize its signs. The room hushed as she shared vital helpline numbers— 1091 and 181—and explained the legal provisions designed to protect them.
Following this, Sweta Aditi Mohanty captivated the audience with an interactive discussion on children’s education rights in India. The girls eagerly participated in a quiz, showcasing their enthusiasm and keen interest in learning. She highlighted Article 21A of the Indian Constitution and detailed the KSSY scheme of Odisha, emphasizing the transformative power of education.
The energy in the room was palpable, fuelled by the warmth and enthusiasm of the students. They actively volunteered answers and engaged in discussions, demonstrating a remarkable understanding of their rights and responsibilities. When asked to share their key takeaways, their responses reflected a newfound awareness and confidence—truly a testament to the session’s impact.
In this vibrant exchange of knowledge and ideas, the Legal Services Clinic not only informed but inspired these young minds, sowing the seeds of empowerment that will undoubtedly flourish in their futures. As they left, it was clear that the session had equipped them with the tools to advocate for themselves and their peers, ensuring they navigate their paths with strength and resilience.
