On 29th of August, while the country was celebrating Onam, the Legal Services Clinic of KIIT School Of Law conducted a Legal Awareness Camp in Patia Girls High School, Bhubaneswar. The student members of the Clinic as well as the teachers interacted and conversed with the young female students of the school. The camp was based around the topics of harassment, sexual abuse and rape, the POCSO Act, as well as cyber safety in this modern digital world. Female student members as well as female teachers made this interaction very open and comfortable for these young girls.

They were made aware of the differentiation between good touch and bad touch and how to react to the same. They were taught the importance of opening up to their parents or anyone they trust in case they face such a situation and always helping and supporting each other as well. They were educated about their rights as humans and as young women in the society in simple and understandable terms.

They were informed about the ways they can seek help as well as the authorities they can contact in such circumstances. The students were also provided with various helpline numbers to further ensure their safety.

They were taught about the importance of privacy and safety in the cyber space as well as do’s and don’ts of the internet. They were cautioned against unknown identities and accounts on social media platforms and also advised on how to deal with cyber bullies or trolls. This productive session was undoubtedly very informative, yet simple and helpful to all the young girls in the school.

These bright young minds are the future of the nation and their safety and protection is a duty upon each one of us.
