Biography and academic profile
Dr. Shyamantak Misra is an Assistant Professor II at KIIT School of Law, KIIT Deemed to be University, with over eight years of teaching experience in legal education. She holds a PhD in Adoption and Surrogacy Laws from KIIT Deemed to be University and completed her B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) from Madhusudan Law University and LL.M. in Corporate and Commercial Laws from SOA National Institute of Law. She has also undertaken specialised certifications in Medical Laws and Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH). Her academic journey reflects a sustained engagement with teaching, research, and institutional responsibilities. Before joining KIIT, she taught at The Law College, Cuttack, SOA National Institute of Law, and Madhusudan Law University. At KIIT School of Law, she has undertaken several academic and administrative responsibilities, including serving as Chief Coordinator of Examinations, Batch Coordinator, Faculty Convenor, and FIC for various academic and co-curricular initiatives. Her principal areas of teaching and research include Personal Laws, Corporate Crimes and emerging legal issues concerning adoption and surrogacy. Dr Misra has contributed to legal scholarship through 4 authored books, 15 book chapters, 6 Scopus-indexed manuscripts, and 20 other research papers. She has guided PhD scholars and participated in academic discourse through presentations at more than 30 conferences, seminars, and scholarly forums. Her research contribution was awarded with the Young Researcher Award in 2022 for her Scopus-indexed publication titled ""The Fons et Origo of Zoroastrianism”. Her academic engagement extends beyond teaching and publication. She has served in editorial and reviewing capacities with academic and legal publishing platforms, including as Faculty Editor with Law Brigade Publishers and as a member of the Editorial Board of Lex Scripta. She has also undertaken professional academic reviewing and editorial responsibilities with INSC International Publishers and related scholarly platforms. As a resource person and invited speaker, Dr. Misra has addressed national academic and professional forums on issues including domestic violence, adoption and surrogacy, women's rights, matrimonial property, customary laws, personal laws, and inclusive societies. Her academic outreach has included programmes associated with the National Commission for Women, Tata Steel Kalinganagar, KISS, and other academic and social organisations. She has also contributed to digital legal literacy initiatives through the National Law University, Bhopal, with content disseminated through the Ministry of Law and Justice's e-Nyayaganga initiative.
