Biography and academic profile
Dr. Sonali Swetapadma is an Assistant Professor at KIIT School of Law, KIIT Deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar. Her academic and research interests primarily encompass Criminal Law, Child Rights, Victimology, Criminology, Criminal Justice Administration, and International Criminal Law. Her research focuses particularly on sexual offences against children, victim-friendly criminal justice mechanisms, victimology, rape myths and cross-examination, gender-based violence, and institutional responses to sexual abuse. She has a special interest in the implementation of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 (POCSO) and strengthening survivor-centric approaches within the criminal justice system. Her broader areas of interest include electronic and digital evidence, AI and criminal justice, and contemporary developments in criminal procedure. Dr. Swetapadma is also a Certified POSH Trainer, with an interest in promoting awareness of the legal and institutional framework governing the prevention of sexual harassment at the workplace. She is actively engaged in teaching, research, academic mentoring, and initiatives relating to criminal justice, child protection, gender justice, and criminal procedure.
