The School of Law, KIIT Deemed to be University, is proud to announce that Mr. Sanjeevan Bhuyan, a fourth-year law student, has secured First Position in the prestigious 12th D.D. Basu Essay Writing Competition.
Organised by the Constitutional Law Society of The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences in collaboration with the Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy, the competition is a nationally recognised platform that fosters critical engagement with constitutional law among students across India.
The 2026 edition, themed “Fourth Branch of Government in India: Power, Accountability, and Democratic Legitimacy,” encouraged participants to reflect on the evolving role of independent institutions in strengthening democratic governance.
Sanjeevan’s winning essay, “Captive Guardians: Constitutional Trusteeship, Democratic Legitimacy, and the Fourth Branch in India,” was widely appreciated for its depth of analysis, clarity of thought, and originality.
In recognition of his achievement, he has been awarded a cash prize of ₹25,000 along with a merit certificate. His essay will also be published on the platform of the Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy.
