To mark World Intellectual Property Day 2026, the Centre for Intellectual Property Studies (CIPS), in collaboration with the Department of Intellectual Property Rights Law and Practice, KIIT School of Law, organised a vibrant celebration centred on the dynamic intersection of intellectual property and sports—where law, innovation, and creativity converge.
The highlight of the event was a distinguished lecture by Shwetasree Majumder, Founder and Managing Partner of Fidus Law Chambers, and one of India’s leading intellectual property litigators. Her lecture, titled “IP and Sports: Ready, Set, Innovate,” offered deep insights into the often-unseen legal frameworks that shape modern sports.
Drawing from compelling examples—such as innovations behind the Nike Air sole technology, Speedo’s record-breaking LZR suit, the massive broadcasting ecosystem of the Indian Premier League, and the evolving personality rights of athletes like Virat Kohli and Neeraj Chopra—she illuminated how intellectual property law underpins performance, branding, and commercial success in sports.
The event concluded with the Valedictory Ceremony for the Treasure Hunt and IP Quiz Competition held on 9th and 10th April 2026, celebrating student participation and enthusiasm in advancing IP awareness.
The programme reflected KIIT School of Law’s continued commitment to fostering dialogue at the intersection of law, innovation, and contemporary global issues.
