A Faculty  Development  Programme  2019 was organized in LawSchool ,KIIT University from 22ndJune 2019 to 26th June 2019 ,as Prof. Dr R.K Nanda as Chairman, Dr Amar Kumar Mohanty as the Coordinator . The details of the sessions conducted, speakers etc are documented.

FIRST SESSION

Highlight of the Discussion The Speaker started the presentation by providing the lecture plan of the session which would include outlining the conceptual underpinnings via lecture mode, simulations, case study methods, and audience participation. She used a hypothetical scenario to highlight the issues which arose in this field.
Key Take-aways The Speaker’s lecture design began from conceptual clarifications, application of the concept, issues and considerations regarding the concept in practise to case study. She finally concluded with a skill component. Her use of different methods and modes to portray her teaching pedagogy gave the audience a overview of how a holistic lecture plan should be framed.

Highlight of the Discussion The primary focus of the discussion was to impart the techniques and the skills of teaching with the help of the topic CSR (under Companies Act 2013) : A Welcome Step Towards Inclusive Growth. At the outset of the presentation, the speaker highlighted the need to innovate the teaching methodology in the wake of the pandemic and urged a strong need to grab the attention of the students in the class.
By highlighting an example from the CSR initiatives of Walt Disney (wish granting initiative), the speaker highlighted the way in which the attention of the students could be captured
Key Take-aways The key takeaways from the session was the understanding of the various techniques like the use of real life examples, importance of multidimensional approaches and use of diagrammatic presentations and explaining a concept holistically by taking the help of outside literature and using the latest rules and amendments.

It must consist of three elements which must be present in the Course Description: Alluring, Definite and Categorical. The first two lines of the Course Description should create the interest of the students and the following lines should relate to the context. Next part in the curriculum should be Assessment which can be MCQ(20%) Case Analysis(40%) and Research Paper(40%).The last part of the curriculum should be writing about the Faculty mentioning about the qualification to teach the subject. This may be with the help of reference of any Article of the Teacher which act as the index.
Key Take-aways Course Description should not be more than 60 words. The learning objectives should have clear instructions, knowledge context, Practice used, Critical Thinking and Research oriented.

Highlight of the Discussion The resource person presented upon the theme of syllabus designing. She emphasized that there are twin expectation involved while designing a syllabus: the expectation that students have from the course and the expectation that the course has from the students. While designing the syllabus, she emphasized the need for the course rationale which consists of : who is this course for, what is the course about and the kind of teaching taking place. She followed up with the two main dimensions of the development i.e. sequencing and planning of the course content. Other things like guiding the students, planning the course, emphasizing upon the focus areas, omission of certain topics, time management are factors to be considered while preparing the course. She demonstrated these factors by presenting the syllabuses of the subjects: Special Contract and Law of Contracts. The session was continued by Prof. Dr. Bhavani Prasad Panda. He demonstrated the skill of syllabus designing by showcasing the Criminology syllabus. He highlighted how the course description, learning objectives, teaching methods should correspond to the subject of the course. He outlined three methods of analysis – agreement-based, critique based method and negation based method. He also emphasized the importance of a lecture schedule and reading materials as part of one’s teaching plan.
Key Take-aways The session highlighted and demonstrated the methods by which syllabus could be designed. Through their presentations, they provided the audience a framework which is to be adhered to, while designing a syllabus. The session concluded with observations and with a motivational approach to the field of teaching.

Highlight of the Discussion The resource person presented his Methods and Methodologies of conducting ADR class. The Speaker started with the need to overcome the ‘Amygdala Hijack’. He stressed upon the fact that since ADR is a Clinical Paper , the Teaching Dynamics primarily consists of :-

i. Establishing Conceptual Clarification in the initial classes

ii. Group Simulation among the students for the application of the concepts

The Speaker emphasized that his primary aim is to bring a behavioral understanding with in the students of the fact that ADR involves the Inquisitorial Method of Dispute Resolution which is a Win-Win for both the parties. This is what the student has to internalize. There can be no Loser, both parties have to benefit . As a Teacher , he would guide in the preparation, help both sides to reach negotiation settlements , intervene and stop the students when they start fighting. He uses exercises which involves real life simulation problems , in which the already categorized group of students would be classified in the role of Complainants, Respondents, Arbitrators, Experts. The Group leaders were made the in charge of ensuring attendance record and evaluation criteria. This ensured sustained attendance and a participative evaluation mechanism, thus categorizing it as a Student Driven and Student Managed Course. He stresses upon the fact that as an Arbitrator, one has to concur over the Amygdala Hijack.

Key Take-aways The outcome from the Session is that in a Clinical Paper , it is very essential to map the Skill Based component with the Concepts which must be reflected through the primary engagement of the students in various simulated exercises. This will help the students to :-

Highlight of the Discussion Prof. (Dr.) Panda invited the L.L.M students and PHD scholars to share their experience and the response was overwhelming. He also congratulated all the faculty members for their participation and contribution during the FDP Programme. Prof.(Dr.) Panda emphasized on collection of all the reports and its compilation under four volumes based on the themes of the webinar. All the faculties were requested to submit their feedback and identify 4 national and 2 international resource persons who would take special lectures for the students in each of their subjects. Prof. Panda also gave a target to all the faculties to decide their topics by December 31, 2021 for FDP 2022. He also thanked Prof. (Dr.) Gouri Tripathi for his inaugural lecture.
