The “FIRE SAFETY MEASURE DRILL: FIRE SERVICE WEEK 2024” organised by the Centre for Social Action (CSA), a students’ society of KIIT School of Law in collaboration with NSS UNIT, KIIT SCHOOL OF LAW was aimed to spread awareness on fire safety measures. We have witnessed many instances of fire outbreaks in recent few years, which pose a serious threat to both life and property, keeping that in mind the centre had organized this particular awareness program with the help of an expert team to make people acquainted with the approach they should take to tackle such emergency situations.

An expert team of FIRE DEPARTMENT, KIIT University headed by Chief Fire Officer Sukanta Sethi were cordially invited. Mr. Sethi is a renowned name in the field and is responsible for conducting various rescue operations in various parts of the country.

The team was welcomed first to Room No. 1 of KIIT SCHOOL OF LAW, and thereafter the program commenced by an introductory speech given by Prof. (Dr.) Binita Behera and Prof. (Dr.) Jinia Kundu on the fire safety week and the need of learning measures to prevent and act on it. Further it was Mr. Sukanta Sethi who threw light on why do we celebrate this Fire Safety Week from 14th of April to 20th of April as to commemorate all the brave firefighters who lost their lives during a ship explosion at the Mumbai dockyard in 1944. He focused on the various types of fire and how we should choose the appropriate extinguisher specifically for each type of fire followed by method of operating a Fire Extinguisher that is P.A.S.S. (Pull, Aim, Squeeze and Sweep) method. After this hour long theoretical session a practical session was conducted in front of the academic block where they put on various classes of fire and showed how to use various sort of extinguishers to put down the fire. The session was not just attended by students of the KIIT SCHOOL OF LAW but rather the staffs of the college and hostels too took part. Students and the staff members were given the opportunity to use different extinguishers themselves and douse the fire.

The office staff and boys and girls hostel staff  of KIIT School of Law were also invited for this event and were engaged in the drill themselves.

And by this the program came to an end and the expert team and specially Mr. Sukanta Sethi were thanked by Prof. (Dr.) Binita Behera, faculty coordinator of CSA and Prof. (Dr.) Jinia Kundu Programming Officer, KIIT School of Law. Prof and (Dr.) Ramesh Ch. Sethi, co-coordinator of CSA.
