The Department of Criminal Law and Criminal Justice System at KIIT School of Law, under the guidance of Dr. Sarvesh Kumar Shahi, organized a guest lecture on March 25, 2026. The session featured Dr. Prof. Dr. Dipa Dube, Dean, Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law, who delivered an insightful lecture on “Policing Under New Criminal Law.”

Dr. Dube highlighted the persistent gap between statutory provisions and their implementation in practice. She critically examined issues such as Zero FIRs, custodial deaths, and simulated encounters, while stressing the need for a more humane and victim-centric criminal justice system. Emphasizing procedural safeguards as essential to protecting citizens’ rights, she advocated for greater accountability, gender-sensitive legal frameworks, and ethical standards in evidence management.

Drawing on Bentham’s utilitarian philosophy, the session concluded with a compelling call for reforms aimed at ensuring human dignity, fairness, and the protection of vulnerable sections of society.
