The KIIT Centre for Constitutional Law Studies and Research (CCLSR), in collaboration with Tarka Samuha (Debate Society), KIIT School of Law, successfully organised the “Justice on Record: Constitutional Judgement Writing Competition” as part of KIIT Fest 9.0, held from 6th March to 7th March 2026 at KIIT School of Law, KIIT Deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar. The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from more than 35 students representing various universities, who competed in teams of two participants. The event aimed to foster constitutional reasoning, judicial writing skills, and analytical thinking among law students by simulating the process of judicial decision-making.
Prior to the commencement of the written round on 6th March 2026, a Legal Research and Technical Session was conducted by Mr. Prateek Mishra. The session focused on introducing the participants to the intricacies of legal research, case analysis, and the proper format of judicial judgement writing. It proved to be an insightful and enriching session that helped participants better understand the structure and methodology required for drafting a well-reasoned judicial opinion.
Following the session, Day 1 of the competition commenced with the Judgement Writing Round, where participants were required to analyse the constitutional issues presented in the proposition and draft a well-reasoned judicial opinion. The written submissions were carefully evaluated, by designated faculty panel consisting Dr. Sarvesh Shahi, Mr. Saptarshi Das, Mr. Faiz Ayat Ansari, Mr. Udit Narayan Mishra, Mr. Sundar Athreya H and Dr. Bibhu Kaibalya Manik. By the evening of the same day, the Top 7 teams were announced who successfully qualified for the Judgement Presentation Round.
The Judgement Presentation Round, held on 7th March 2026, required the shortlisted teams to present and justify their written judgements before an esteemed judging panel. The round was adjudicated by Ms. Upasana Mohanty, Associate at AQUILAW, and Ms. Swayamsiddha Das, Advocate, Bar Council of Delhi. The presentations were marked by insightful legal reasoning and thoughtful constitutional interpretations. The judges provided valuable feedback to the participants, appreciating their analytical approach and clarity in judicial reasoning.
The event concluded with the Valedictory Ceremony, which took place at Lecture Hall-1, KIIT School of Law. The ceremony was graced by Prof. (Dr.) Raju K. D., Hon’ble Pro-Vice Chancellor, KIIT Deemed to be University, along with other dignitaries including Dr. Sudipta De Sarkar, Dr. Parimita Dash, Prof. (Dr.) Rose Varghese, Former Director, KIIT School of Law, Dr. Kyvalya Garikapati, Dr. Anshu Adarsh, Faculty Convenor, CCLSR, Dr. Bhubaneswari Bisoyi, Faculty Convenor, Debate Society, and other esteemed faculty members and participants.
After an engaging and intellectually stimulating competition, the team comprising Ayushman Khadanga and Hiteshi Chugh from National Law University Odisha secured the Winner position, while the team comprising Suchana Sen and Akankshya Pradhan from KIIT School of Law secured the Runner-Up position.
The competition served as a remarkable platform for law students to engage with constitutional jurisprudence through the lens of judicial writing, further strengthening the academic and research-oriented environment promoted by CCLSR at KIIT School of Law.
