The Centre for Tax and Public Finance (CTPF), KIIT School of Law, successfully organized a Round table Conference on the Direct Tax Code Bill and Union Budget 2025 on 21st February 2025.

The conference focused on key tax reforms, including simplification of laws, reduction in sections, changes in exemptions, dispute resolution mechanisms, and digital compliance. Discussions highlighted constitutional concerns, particularly the right to privacy, as the bill allows tax authorities to access social media for assessments, raising surveillance issues. The removal of sanction in reassessment cases also sparked debate over potential misuse of power. Despite these concerns, the bill introduces efficiency-driven reforms, such as tabular tax rate representation, elimination of redundant provisions, and simplified terminology to enhance transparency and ease compliance. The conference concluded with engaging discussions on global best practices, legal implications, and the future of direct tax reforms, offering a valuable platform for academic and policy-oriented dialogue. The discussion co-ordinated by Mr. Prateek Mishra, Assistant Professor and Dr. Rishi Dev, Assistant Professor, School of Law, KIIT-DU.
