The Trial and Appellate Advocacy Society (TAAS), KIIT School of Law, in collaboration with Legalis IP, organised an online expert session on the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, on 23 October 2026, as part of the 8th KIIT Mock Trial Competition. The session was conducted from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM and featured Adv. Raj Karan Singh, Assistant Advocate General, Punjab, as the guest speaker.
As this year’s mock trial proposition centres on the NDPS Act, the session was designed to familiarise participants with the relevant legal framework, which is not covered in the regular curriculum, and help them prepare realistic, case-specific witness testimony aligned with the proposition.
The session commenced with an overview of the Act, focusing on its statutory presumptions, bail provisions, and key distinctions from other penal laws. The discussion then shifted to witness preparation, with particular emphasis on examination-in-chief and cross-examination in NDPS trials. Participants gained insights into responding to questions clearly and confidently while remaining consistent with the facts and circumstances of the proposition.
The speaker also discussed individual witness roles and the effective portrayal of each role during the mock trial. An interactive question-and-answer session provided participants with an opportunity to clarify their doubts and engage directly with the speaker.
The session offered valuable practical insights into the application of the NDPS Act and strengthened participants’ understanding of trial advocacy and courtroom procedures.
TAAS, KIIT School of Law, extends its sincere gratitude to Adv. Raj Karan Singh for sharing his expertise, Legalis IP for its collaboration, and all participants for their active engagement.
