Previously Dean, Faculty of Law, JMI Central University, New Delhi. An eminent academician, Prof. (Dr.) Rose Varghese completed her schooling from Mt. Carmel Convent, Tangasseri, Quilon. She then did B.A. English Literature & Language from St. Teresa's College, Ernakulam and then graduated in Law from the Kerala Law Academy, Trivandrum and did her Post Graduation in Law from the School of Legal Studies, Cochin University of Science and Technology.
Prof. (Dr.) Rose Varghese began her professional career in 1976, practicing in the High Court of Kerala under the leading Criminal Lawyer S. Easwara Iyer and started her academic career as Lecturer in Law at the A.C. College of Law, Nagarjuna University in 1985. She was then a member of the Faculty at the National Law School of India University, Bangalore from its inception in 1988, where she taught the first five batches and where she also completed her M.Phill in Law. She was then Deputy Director (Legal) at the Independent Bureau for humanitarian Issues at Geneva. She then was a Legal Consultant at the National Commission for Women, New Delhi. She subsequently, completed her Ph.D. from the Faculty of Law, University of Delhi. She joined the Faculty of Law, Jamia Millia Islamia Central University, New Delhi as an Associate Professor in 1994 and then became a Professor and completed her tenure as the Dean of the Faculty. She represented India with Justice P N Bhagwati in the Eminent Persons Group for the Regional Consultations on Refugee and Migratory Movements in South Asia where she presented the Expert Paper and the Country Report on behalf of India. She also attended one of the ExCom Conclusions in Geneva. She attended a fifteen day training on Disaster Management at Kathmandu organized by UNHCR in collaboration with the University of Wisconsin. She was a member of the UNHCR Team for a seven day training programme in Tokyo. She participated in, and organized in collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross and the UNHCR, various National Workshops/Symposia in India, disseminating International Humanitarian Law and Refugee Law. She has several publications to her credit.
She also completed her tenure as the Vice-Chancellor of the National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS), Kochi. Currently, she is the Director of KIIT School of Law, Bhubaneswar.
