Soumya Mohapatra has done her Masters, M.Phil and Ph.D from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Her PhD thesis titled ‘Representation of Charisma and Formation of Religious Community: A Study of Thakur Anukulchandra and his Devotees in Bhubaneswar situates the question of charisma, taking into account the empirical context of the Thakur Anukulchandra and his devotees in Bhubaneswar. She qualified for UGC-NET in 2016. She has also worked as a Reasearch Assistant for a project 'Humara Bachpan', which dealt with young children living in urban poverty
